An Unknowing Mentor

By Ron Skinner

I started working at CBC Radio in 1992 and Ed retired in 1996. So, I didn’t know him well. But right from the start he was someone I admired. He had a quiet calm that I admired. When I was working on a project I would often think to myself, “just try to be calm like Ed”. I don’t think Ed was aware but when we were in each other’s sphere I would spend most of my time observing him, his manor and his recording technique. Unlike some audio engineers Ed was generous with his knowledge, never competitive, always willing to share. I learned so much from Ed without him really knowing.
